Family Friendly Live Performances
Benefits of Attending Live Shows
Live shows are highly entertaining, plus there are plenty of benefits. Attending in-person cultural events can help children to increase their levels of tolerance, enhance their critical thinking skills, boost their knowledge, and allow them to feel more empathy.
Going to an in-person performance is truly an experience, from deciding what seats you’ll order to choosing what you’ll wear. Simply by leaving your home and entering a facility with a professional stage and setup can open up people’s minds in a different way.
Before the performance begins, excitement builds as you listen to other people seek out their seats, the murmur of conversation before the show begins, and more. Before settling into your comfortable seats, you can visit the concessions or merchandise tables in our lobby, or take a tour of the art galleries adjacent to our lobby.
The National Association for the Education of Young Children offers a few tips to make the experience even more worthwhile for children. They suggest that you arrive a bit early so you can discuss where the performance will take place, where restrooms are located and when you can use them, find your seats without stress, and so forth.
After the show, you can further enhance the experience by talking about what you saw (and heard). If it’s a play, you can talk about characters, including which ones you liked best. If comedy, you can each share what jokes were the funniest. Music? Favorite songs, and why.
You can also find ways after the event to expand your enjoyment of it by planning a related age-appropriate performance or do an artistic project at home. Plus, you can choose the next live performance you’ll attend at Thrasher-Horne Center to further broaden the family’s horizons in a fun way. If, for example, you saw a comedy last time, you could consider upcoming music concerts.
